Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Do I really need a security system in my home?
Research has shown that 9 out of 10 convicted burglars would avoid a home protected by a security system.* As a result, when you install an ADT monitored home security system, your home becomes 3 times less likely to be burglarized’.† The peace of mind you get from knowing your home is protected whether you are home or not is priceless.
When the alarm is triggered, what happens?
An CompuGeeks professional will contact you either on the phone or through the 2-way Voice feature on your control panel to verify an emergency, usually within ten seconds, when your alarm goes off. If a password is not given or is incorrect, the ADT representative will notify the proper emergency services to respond. The ADT monitoring center representative will know which door, window, or motion sensor triggered the alarm, which can help response time.
Do I need to have a landline in my home?
It depends. The most reliable connection to ADT monitoring centers is through a landline. However, ADT also offers CellGuard technology that allows your control panel to use a cellular network to contact the monitoring center. Of course, utilizing both landline and cellular connections means you will always have a backup if one system goes out. ADT offers all types of systems, so you can select the method you feel is best to help protect your home.
Does using my phone line affect my service?
No, the security system will take control of your phone line in order to contact the ADT customer monitoring center. After the system has contacted the monitoring center, the system releases the line so that the trained professional can talk to you.
What if the power goes out, does my alarm system still work?
Yes. When your electric power goes out, your backup battery will activate to maintain alarm protection for up to 24 hours. Be sure that you keep that backup battery charged. A low-battery indication can be sent to an ADT monitoring center to help solve the problem.
